Medical Device Development
Neuropix NX08 is available today as a wellness device, designed to support everyday calm and relaxation.
Alongside this, our research and engineering teams are exploring the same underlying stimulation technology for a medical device, which is currently progressing through regulatory approval.
NX08 Med-Stim

A focus on anxiety-related medical conditions
This work explores how specific patterns of stimulation may interact with the brain networks involved in stress responses, and how these interactions may relate to changes in episodes of clinical anxiety.

Using auricular fibre Vagus Nerve Stimulation (afVNS)
This method delivers gentle electrical pulses to nerves that communicate with the brain. Research in this area has investigated how such stimulation may influence neural activity, including brain rhythms associated with anxiety responses.

Clinical Research
We have conducted research to explore this approach in people with anxiety-related conditions, including Phase I clinical trials carried out in a home setting. These studies were designed to investigate how this form of stimulation may interact with anxiety-related behaviours under controlled conditions.
Clinical Indications
Anxiety (Generalized Anxiety Disorder, GAD)
Anxiety is characterized by a feeling of unease—such as fear or worry—that can range from mild to severe. It is a common symptom of conditions including panic disorder and post-traumatic stress. GAD is a long-term condition in which sufferers typically feel anxious most of the time and are easily triggered by non-specific events, significantly affecting their quality of life. Main symptoms include restlessness, worry, insomnia, difficulty concentrating, as well as dizziness and heart palpitations.
Cognitive Impairment
Cognitive impairment refers to changes in thinking abilities that are more noticeable than typical age-related forgetfulness. It is common among aging individuals, where things may be forgotten more frequently, or periods of confusion may arise. Tasks that were once easy—such as following a conversation, managing finances, or remembering appointments—may become more challenging.
Cognitive impairment exists on a spectrum, ranging from mild changes to more significant decline. It is not a disease in itself but rather a set of symptoms that can be caused by various conditions, including stress, medication side effects, sleep disturbances, or underlying neurological disorders. Early recognition and appropriate support can make a meaningful difference in quality of life.
Depression
Depression affects everyone differently, ranging from mild to severe in its impact. Common emotional symptoms include lasting feelings of hopelessness, unhappiness, loss of interest in daily activities, and anxiety. Physical symptoms are also common and may include poor sleep, reduced sex drive, changes in appetite, fatigue, and body aches.
Depression can be triggered by life-changing events such as loss, trauma, or chronic stress. It also tends to run in families, suggesting a genetic link. Depression is not a personal weakness or failure—it is a real, treatable medical condition. With appropriate support, many people find relief and regain a sense of well-being.
Inflammation (Inflammatory Disease)
Inflammation is the body's way of protecting itself. When you have an infection or an injury, your immune system sends out an inflammatory response to help you heal—like a natural first-aid kit working behind the scenes.
But sometimes, the immune system gets its signals mixed up. In certain diseases, it triggers inflammation even when there is no injury or infection to fight. This is what we call inflammatory disease. Instead of protecting you, the inflammation causes discomfort, pain, or damage to healthy parts of the body.
It can feel frustrating when your own body seems to be working against you. But remember—inflammation in these cases is not your fault. It is a medical condition, and with the right support, treatments are available to help calm the immune system, reduce symptoms, and improve quality of life.
Headache Pains
Headaches are a common experience, but that doesn't make them any less difficult to live with. A headache is not imagined—it is a real physical event involving nerves, blood vessels, and muscles in the head and neck.
There are many types of headaches. Tension headaches feel like a tight pressure around the forehead or back of the head. Migraines are more severe, often throbbing on one side, and can include nausea and sensitivity to light or sound. Cluster headaches cause intense, burning pain around one eye and occur in patterns.
Triggers differ for everyone—dehydration, poor sleep, stress, certain foods, or hormonal changes can all play a role.
The encouraging news is that relief is possible. From simple measures like rest and hydration to medical treatments and innovative therapies, most headaches can be effectively managed.
Sleep Disorders
Sleep disorders, including insomnia, make it difficult for individuals to get the restful sleep they need. Common causes include stress, anxiety, depression, physical discomfort, and the use of caffeine, alcohol, or recreational drugs.
People with sleep disorders may struggle to fall asleep even when tired, wake up frequently during the night, lie awake for extended periods, or wake up feeling unrefreshed. Some also experience early morning waking.
Sleep problems can be short-term, lasting days or weeks, often triggered by a stressful event. For others, they become a long-term condition lasting months or years.
Poor sleep affects more than just energy levels—it can impact mood, focus, memory, and overall health. Fortunately, effective support and treatments are available, from lifestyle adjustments to therapy and innovative technologies.
